Functional Movement Screening
WHY WE GO THE EXTA MILE AND USE THE FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT SYSTEMS
At R3, we use the Functional Movement Systems to screen and assess how our bodies move and function in a coordinated fashion. The Functional Movement Systems is a robust system that creates standards, baselines, and norms for human movement. Essentially, the complete system encompasses the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (medical model), Functional Movement Screen, Y-Balance Screening for Motor Control, and the Functional Capacity Screen. Depending on your current level of readiness, we’ll choose the appropriate screening method to guide us with programming. Here are some of the benefits of using the systems:
Cutting Edge Training Philosophies
Movement training is groundbreaking, and something that most trainers and therapists are unfamiliar with, but is the foundation of training. You have to learn to crawl before you learn to walk, and in order to get the most out of your body, we need to follow a system that guides us where to start, when to progress, and when to back off. It is imperative to build a solid functional base for your body to perform at your best. If you’re going to build a mansion, it’s wise to make sure you have a solid foundation to build it on to protect your investment. Our bodies are the exact same way.
Increase Efficiency to Increase Results
Your body is much less efficient with dysfunctional movement patterns and asymmetries in comparison to moving well. By using the screen, we can find your weakest link and improve it, this will help accelerate your results and break through plateaus because of increased efficiency.
If You’re Not Assessing You’re Guessing
Without a screen, how do you know what exercises are right and wrong for your particular body. The truth is, if you’re not assessing you’re guessing. With a screen, we can narrow our plan of attack down to exactly what your body needs to achieve the best results in the shortest amount of time.
Decrease Risk of Injury
You can’t get results if you are hurt. The screen allows us to see what your chance of injury may be, and allows us to program the best workout possible to make sure that you stay injury free.
Know That Your Program is Working For You
Scoring criteria allows you and your trainers to see if your movement patterns are improving, or if the training program is having a positive or negative effect on your baseline movement. This way you know what is happening with your training based on fact.
